2008 CWA National

by Beth on September 2, 2008

Tiercel, Lark and I arrived home early this morning from the CWA National in Nottingham, PA. The flights out and back were uneventful, the weekend was a wonderful exhibition of showing, racing and good sportsmanship, and MAWRA did a wonderful job hosting a first class national!

Tiercel raced very well in the hugely competitive national entry. On Saturday, he went into his final race in contention for ARX points, but the heat and high humidity left him with nothing in the tank, and his last place finish in that crucial race put him well down in the final standings.

Sunday was a different story: it was perhaps even hotter but the lower humidity was a huge relief and Tiercel was feeling more himself. He won his first two races convincingly, and went into the high point for the remainder of the meet. He finished 8th in the meet and took the middle set of 4 ARX points! He now needs just 1 more point to finish his ARX. What a thrill to have him earn points in such a competitive entry the day after the National.

On Friday, Lark was 4th in the open bitch class at the National match under Linda Buchholz (Swiftsure). She raced well on Saturday but tweaked a toe and was lame for the match that afternoon, so I pulled her and sadly that was the end of her weekend. The toe injury is minor and she will recover, but I was sad she wasn’t able to fully participate in the festivities.

We had a wonderful time and I was so glad to be able to spend time with old friends and meet new ones. Thanks MAWRA for a great weekend!
