My very first black, Tiercel is one of my two keepers from the 2nd Bird litter. I love his smooth, balanced body and movement, his keen athleticism, his sweet and sensible temperament, and ESPECIALLY his charismatic personality, which immediately captivates everyone he meets! He is an incredibly athletic dog and rivals his half-sister Kestrel as the champion frisbee player here at Serendipity.
In the Ring…
Tiercel made his show debut in July 2006 at the Canadian National specialty in White Rock, BC, where he won his sweeps class under breeder judge Lorna Leinbach (Sailaway) and his regular class under breeder judge Tracy Hite (Tivio). The next day at the LMWA specialty, he again won his sweeps class under sighthound specialist Barbara Turpin (Of Course) and was 2nd in his regular class under English breeder judge Gay Robertson (Moonlake).
Tiercel is a CWA match winner and also won the conformation match at the 2007 Northwest Versatility Weekend, where he finished 6th in the overall Versatility standings! The match win made him a 2nd generation NWVW match winner, as his mother Wren won the match at the 1st NWVW in 2002! At the 2008 Versatility Weekend, Tiercel improved his performance and finished 4th in the overall standings.
On the Track…
Tiercel made his racing debut in the puppy races in late October 2006, and debuted as an adult at the WCOBC NOTRA meet in November, running a grade B score in his very first meet. He easily earned his OTR and OTRM in the minimum number of meets required to finish both titles.
Tiercel’s true love is straight racing. He made his CWA debut in March 2007, running a grade B score and finishing in the top 10. He followed up the next day with an even stronger performance, finishing 5th in the meet, just behind his half-brother Levi who was the “bridesmaid” to the ARX points. In his next CWA outing, Tiercel was the bridesmaid himself! He has been a consistent top-10 performer and, in pursuit of his title, was the bridesmaid on more occasions than I can count. At the October 13, 2007 RFF meet in Abbotsford, BC, he finally earned his first ARX point, finishing 5th in a highly competitive 30 dog meet. He picked up 4 more points (and a conformation match win!) at the NCWFA meets in California in May/June 2008. At RFF’s August 2008 meets, he earned the top set of 5 ARX points, and then just a few weeks later, picked up another 4 points in a hugely competitive entry in Nottingham, PA, the day after the CWA National. Tiercel finished his ARX in his first meet of 2009, on March 14 at the RFF meet in Abbotsford BC, finishing 5th in the meet and earning the bottom set of 2 points! He finished his DPCX, CWA’s highest achievement, in August 2009.
In the Field…
Tiercel made an exciting ASFA debut at the WWWA ASFA trials in Roy, WA on April 14/15, 2007. On Sunday he won his open stake for his first placement and 40 points towards his title. He then went on to win the BOB runoff, defeating two full stakes of open whippets and six field champions! His next time out, at the May 12/13 EBC trials in Auburn, WA, he picked up his 2nd and 3rd first placements and 48 more points. He finished his field championship in September 2007 at the NWSGA ASFA trials in Arlington, WA, with an exciting 1st place tie in a highly competitive full stake; I forfeited for 2nd place as he only needed 12 points and already had all his placements. He finished his title in 6 trials with three firsts and a second placement, only out of the ribbons once. In his debut in the FCH stake, he finished 3rd, earning his first points towards his LCM in a highly competitive full stake! He is now about a third of the way towards his LCM with several first placements.
Obedience…
Tiercel is trained partially through novice and, like his mother before him, has proven himself an enthusiastic worker with an incredible work ethic. I hope to continue training in pursuit of his CD and perhaps even his CDX in 2009 and beyond.
