Hokum was the pick male puppy from the Lark litter. He is owned by my friend Mary Downing of Whimsy Whippets and lives with her just on the other side of town, so I am lucky to be able to see him regularly. I am grateful for Mary’s interest in this litter and for the chance to place this very promising puppy in a home where he’ll be shown, coursed and raced. Thank you Mary for your friendship and support!
In the ring…
Hokum made his debut at WWWA’s sanction match in August 2010 where he won Best Puppy! In his first official show, the Whidbey Island Kennel Club show in Monroe, WA in November 2010, he was Winners Dog for his first point! In July 2011 he made his Canadian debut with his owner Mary Downing of Whimsy Whippets, with impressive results, winning Reserve Winners Dog at the LMWA specialty in July 2011 under whippet specialist Chris Abraham. He was WD (5 points!) at the LMWA specialty in July 2012 and now just needs 2 points to finish his Canadian championship. He was also Reserve Winners Dog at the WWWA specialty in July 2012 under breeder judge Wendy Gay (Grand Prix Whippets).
On the track…
Hokum made his racing debut at the August RFF meets, running a very consistent high C score and gaining valuable experience. Like his mother, brother and sister before him, he finished 2nd in the match for his first DPC credit in his very first meet! Thank you Catherine O’Brien (Curas) for the nice placement and very positive comments about Hokum and his brother and sister! He continued his winning ways in the CWA ring in 2012, finishing in the year-end Top-10. He earned his first ARX points in 2012, and by the end of the year needed just 2 points to finish his title. He finished up his title at the May 2013 RFF meets, with a strong 4th place finish in the meet and a career best A score. Congratulations to proud owner Mary Downing!
