Branwen was the first whippet not born here at Serendipity since Ringer arrived in 2002.  Grateful thanks to Lorie Crain, Sam Honaker and Phoebe Booth for sharing her with me. I loved her classic pedigree, which is chock-full of so many of the great dual-purpose whippets of the past, that I’ve so long admired, and I had high hopes for her in all endeavors!

More information about Branwen, her sire and dam and littermates can be found on the website or on the Versatile Whippets website or on the  Shamasan website.

In the Ring…

Branwen made her show debut at the 2008 AWC National in Eugene, OR, where she didn’t place in either her sweeps class (shown by her co-breeder Phoebe Booth) or her regular puppy class (shown by me), but had lots of fun and gained valuable experience. At her next show outings, at the LMWA and WCOBC specialties in British Columbia in July 2008, she made it into the ribbons in every class in which she was shown.

On the Track…

Branwen made her adult debut on the race track at the June 7, 2009 BCWRC NAWRA meet in Abbotsford, BC. She ran very well, finishing 15th in the 30 dog meet, and gained valuable experience. Her 2nd full weekend out, at the August 2009 RFF CWA meets in BC, she ran her first B score and earned her first top-10 finish! She looked very promising and I was excited about her future.

And finally at home…

Although I had high hopes for her in the ring and the field, Branwen did not enjoy the show ring, and despite her enthusiasm and great promise in the performance events, her lack of confidence and focus made her an inconsistent runner. I made the difficult decision to retire her from competition at a much younger age than I usually do with my dogs, because she is happiest at home, with her family. So she is now spayed and retired and lives the life of a perfect companion, sweet and cheerful, with impeccable house manners, and is happy to cheer on her friends and housemates from the comfort of her home.
